Little Munchkins Pumpkin Patch

Although it’s no longer halloween time, I thought I’d share about my trip to the Little Munchkins Pumpkin patch. Not only is the pumpkin patch one of the best I’ve seen, but spending time with my family made the day that much better.

Like most pumpkin patches, I was expecting nothing more than a field with pumpkins and potentially a corn maze. Upon arriving, I quickly spotted these two things. What I wasn’t expecting was all the other activities that this pumpkin patch would have. We started out by getting snacks and roasting marshmallows at s’mores stations. After that we weren’t sure where to go due to all the options. We decided to walk our way around the whole property and enjoy all of the activities.

First the petting zoo, then the large slide, a little friendly competition at the paintball range and even more. I must say that the shooting range was my favorite part. Shooting a paintball gun was the last thing I expected to do at a pumpkin patch, so it was a nice surprise. It was also great to get out of the dorms for a bit, spend some time outside and get out of my regular routine. My cousin, Margaret, was back for the weekend from the University of Kansas, so it was especially nice to see her as well.

After we participated in most of the activities including the zip lines, hedge ball slingshots and corn hole, we noticed that they had a decorated “haunted trail” and were quick to walk down it. This, while not my favorite activity in itself, is what made me truly enjoy this pumpkin patch. All of the homemade ghosts, witches and other decorations made me realize how awesome the set up was. Most pumpkin patches I had been to before this one were large scale and didn’t feel nearly as homelike and friendly as this.

Coincidentally, my uncle who accompanied us was actually friends with the owner of the pumpkin patch. This helped add to the friendly atmosphere and also gave us the opportunity to help out a little bit. After the day at the patch and selecting our pumpkins, my uncles friend offered to give us the pumpkins for free if we could supply him with hedge balls. We were quick to take this deal up and later gathered buckets upon buckets of hedge balls, adding to the adventure.

Once we restocked their hedge ball supply, it was time to take our pumpkins home, carve them and finish the day. Similar to my fishing trip I blogged about, as much as I loved the activities that took place, the main thing that made it as enjoyable as it was, was getting to share the experience with my family. Participating in outdoor recreation activities has a lot of benefits on an individual level, but something I realize is a large part of why I do these activities is to spend time with friends and family and strengthen those relationships.

I highly recommend going to Little Munchkins Pumpkin Patch during the month of October when they’re open. I’ve been told that each year they add to and change up their pumpkin patch, keeping it new and enjoyable for many. As I said before, it is the best pumpkin patch I’ve been to, with a range of activities and a lovely hospitable environment.
